We offer a unique opportunity to explore in one day Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz - Birkenau. If you are visiting Krakow just for short weekend, it may be perfect option for you.
Oświęcim is a town located some 50 kilometers west of Krakow, in turn, known as a place of martyrdom, suffering and death of millions of lives, it's a grim witness to history. The concentration camp Auschwitz - Birkenau, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most popular place in the vicinity of Krakow.
Wieliczka is one of the most beautiful places in close proximity to the city. The famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, the salt mine, is visited every year by thousands of tourists. Proximity to Krakow and good transport links make this area an attractive place to spend time.
Firstly, You will be taken to Auschwitz I, where you will join an English tour – provided by the Museum’s guide – for about 2 hours. After that, we will transfer you to Auschwitz II – Birkenau, which is about 2 km away. You will spend there about 1 hour with the same guide.
In a second part of the day, you will be transferred to the Salt Mine in Wieliczka, which happens to be one of the oldest working Salt Mines in the World – it has been producing table salt for over 700 years! You will be attending an English guided tour at 4pm or 5pm (depending on road conditions). Your guide will take you up to 140 meters underground for a 2,5-hours journey through over 2,5-kilometres long tourist route full of chambers with amazing carvings and statues, where everything is made of salt.
- maximum size of bags and backpacks allowed to bring into the Auschwitz museum is 30x20x10 cm.
- to reach the first level of the mine (64 metres underground), you have to descent a wooden stairway which has 378 stairs. After the tour, you will be taken up to the surface with a lift. You should be back to your hotel not later than at 7.30pm.
